George is one of the dancers in Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES. Talk about legendary, and he's still alive. He can be seen in the below shot, his hair greyed on the temples. You have to click on the link as he is on the far right and it's cropped on the thumbnail. That's some holy shit moments. Sharing the screen with Monroe. WOW.

Not sure if George Chakiris is in Jane Russell's big number from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes film; but he did become close to MM during filming and they remained friends until her death.
Seem recall a story that George Chakiris was caught cottaging in some NJ department store restroom (Bamberger's?) many years ago.
In any event it's widely known in Hollywood and musical theatre circles GC is gay. He won't confirm nor deny it, but there you are.
Can understand why GC wouldn't come out publicly years ago, but at this stage of his life and career can't see what harm it would do. The man is nearly 90; get shot of wearing and coloring (what's left) of his hair, lay off plastic surgery/fillers and just come out already.
It's not like George Chakiris was Tab Hunter, Andy Perkins, or Rock Hudson. He barely was a "B" grade actor known mostly as a dancer who got lucky with roles after WSS.

Others know and likely could write or have written quite juicy books, but it would be playing with fire IMHO.
Scores of rent boys, hustlers and others adjacent to Hollywood or maybe part of scene know exactly who was doing who (or is that whom?), going back decades. Depending upon who you wish to believe for example late Scotty Bowers was full of shit, or told the truth many didn't want known.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 8, 2022 6:49 AM |
Roddy McDowall likely took so many secrets of gay Hollywood with him to the grave.
For a skinny young (then later older) man by all accounts Roddy was packing serious trade. That alone would have made him popular with size queens of power gay Hollywood set.

It seems like Chakiris did a lot of B movies that back in the day played on the bottom half of a double bill. One exception would be 1966s Is Burning? an all-star 3-hour bore.
The NY Times Nov. 11, 1966 the urgent question is not Is Paris Burning which is the foregone inquiry made in the title of the new motion picture that opened at the Criterion last night. The question is whether the customers who shell out good money to see this film will be burning after sitting for almost three hours trying to get with it
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 8, 2022 7:11 AM |
The opening scene of The Big Cube (1969) in which Chakiris plays a Med student who dabbles in LSD and plots to drive his girlfriend's stepmother played by Lana Turner crazy by injecting her sedatives with LSD! Gaslight meets Wild in the Streets. Though distributed by Warner Brothers it feels like an American International release.

George is a lovely man.
I dropped my wallet in a parking structure in the early nineties and he found it and tracked down my identity through my mother (before the internet!) and mailed my wallet to my mother! She then made sure I signed a "Thank You Note" to this stranger, and mailed it to him with a 10 dollar bill to cover his expenses for mailing the wallet to her!
YEEEEEARS LATER, watching E! Entertainment TV, i recognized the name of the man, as the man that found my wallet, (and mailed it to us!) I was profoundly embarrassed that I didn't recognize his name, at the time (in the Nineties)
He deserves respect and I wish I could've repaid him somehow for his kindness.

His book--as surmised above--told no gossip. It was more about his trajectory to 'WSS' and then what happened afterwards. The main people he name-dropped were fellow dancers.

I actually worked with George on a small ill-fated project about 8 years ago. He was incredibly shy and reserved but sweet. Stuck to himself. Because he was so quiet, actually inarticulate, he sort of came off as not very bright. But he was very sweet! He joked about letting his hair go natural for the role as he was supposed to be his real age, but he just kept on with the black shoe polish. He seemed to be using it on his scruff as well.

Think crown hair is a piece with hairline perhaps helped along with transplants.
There are a host of brush, spray and comb on "root" hair colors that will blend grey or white hair.
Either way George Chakiris must take same amount of time as a trans or some fraus to get himself ready to go out doors. It takes some work to camouflaged what must be by now significant amount of white hair.
He's shaved off, plucked out or done something with eyebrows. You truly know you've hit old age when your eyebrows start going white. Much of the good stuff like Roux lash and brow tint has been taken off market.
