TV Answer Man, do you know what channels the Fubo and Hulu service will have? Will it have more regional sports networks than Hulu Live? — Bob, Cleveland.
Bob, Disney announced today that its Hulu Live will merge with Fubo with Fubo’s current management running the new service. As part of the deal, Fubo agrees to drop its lawsuit against Venu, the sports streaming venture jointly owned by Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery.
“This combination will allow both Hulu + Live TV and Fubo to enhance and expand their virtual MVPD offerings and provide consumers with even more choice and flexibility,” said Justin Warbrooke, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Development, The Walt Disney Company. “We have confidence in the Fubo management team and their ability to grow the business, delivering high-quality offerings that serve subscribers with the content they want and offering great value.”
The companies said the current Hulu Live service will still be available via the Hulu app and a separate Fubo service will also be available at the Fubo app. The new service with Hulu Live and Fubo combined will be available via Fubo.
According to their press release, the combined company will negotiate carriage agreements with content providers for both Hulu Live and Fubo services independently from Disney.
Disney and Fubo did not release pricing details today, a launch date (Federal regulators will have to approve the deal and that could take a year or more) or exactly which channels will be offered in the combined service. The two services now have roughly 280 channels combined including 26 regional sports networks and a large number of free channels from Fubo.
